THE OLD APPLEYARD
a dream realised: crafting a spacious, light-filled chalet home in thuxton, norfolk
The owner of this chalet-style home in Thuxton, Norfolk, had long dreamed of building a personal, spacious home. During the challenging COVID-19 pandemic, fluctuating material prices and supply chain disruptions led to delays, particularly a six-month wait for essential oak roof trusses.
The architectural team focused on creating a seamless connection between the home and its natural surroundings. The design maximised natural light with large windows and expansive glazing to capture panoramic views. Open-plan living spaces with vaulted ceilings were incorporated to enhance the sense of space and light. The triangular plot allowed for creative design solutions, positioning the living and dining areas to face the stunning Norfolk landscape. Natural materials, especially oak for the roof trusses and porch, added warmth and character.
The result is a spacious, light-filled home that exceeds expectations, offering tranquility and a deep connection to nature. The oak roof trusses are a standout feature, adding craftsmanship and timelessness to the home. Despite the challenges, the homeowner’s dream has been realised with a home that perfectly reflects her vision.
