CHURCH VIEW
luxury living by the river wissey: sensitive design in a historic, picturesque setting
This project involved designing three luxurious homes, each with up to six bedrooms, on plots of approximately one-third of an acre near a local church and the River Wissey. The goal was to create homes that blended modern living with respect for the environment and heritage.
Due to the proximity to a protected heritage site, we worked closely with archaeologists and conducted a 1-meter trench excavation to preserve the historical integrity of the church. Sensitivity to the church's setting was crucial throughout the design and construction phases.
The design maximised views of the River Wissey and surrounding countryside, with south-facing gardens for optimal sunlight. The chalet-style homes featured low roof heights to minimise visual impact on the church and landscape. Garages were placed at the rear to preserve views, and traditional features ensured the homes blended with the rural setting.
The project was mindful of environmental impact, with energy-efficient systems and sustainable materials. The result is a sensitive design that integrates luxury homes with their historical and natural surroundings.
