Church View

luxury living by the river wissey: sensitive design in a historic, picturesque setting

This project focussed on designing three luxurious and spacious homes, each offering flexible living arrangements with up to six bedrooms. The homes were built on plots of approximately one-third of an acre, nestled in a breathtaking rural location next to a local church and the tranquil River Wissey.

Sensitivity to the church’s historical setting and maintaining the integrity of the site were of utmost importance throughout the design and construction phases.

Design concept and challenges

The design philosophy was centered around maximising the views of the picturesque River Wissey, ensuring that each home enjoyed uninterrupted views over the river and the surrounding valley. All the homes were designed with south-facing gardens to provide optimal sunlight. The homes were designed in a chalet-style, keeping the roof heights low in order to minimise the visual impact on the neighbouring church and surrounding landscape, addressing any concerns from local stakeholders.

Heritage and environmental sensitivity

One of the key challenges of the project was working within the constraints of a listed heritage site. We took extra care in ensuring that the development did not negatively impact the church or surrounding structures. The low-rise chalet-style homes were specifically chosen to ensure that the visual impact was kept to a minimum. Furthermore, the natural topography of the land was carefully considered to ensure that the homes seamlessly blended into the landscape.

We were also mindful of environmental impact and ensured that the homes were built to the highest standards of sustainability, with energy-efficient systems and materials that reduced the overall carbon footprint of the development.

This project demonstrates our commitment to combining sensitive design with practical and aesthetic considerations, ensuring that luxury homes can coexist harmoniously with their historical and natural surroundings.
